well you sure as hell aren't gonna game on it or anything but as far as im aware it's powerful enough to fuck around, browse the web and will handle most programming stuff and other nerd shit
the thing that makes it different from a mircocontroller is that you can program it with pretty much anything that will run on an arm processor and also at the end of the day its a fucking computer which you can use for whatever
+as i said i dont have anything planned for it, i do have a diploma project to write though but as far as im aware it needs to solve some 'novel' problem (or at least pretend to - theres absolutely no way every single uni graduate contributes something new) and i don't think that a dumb toy project will cut it.
speaking of diplomas - how is this shit SO DUMB im supposed to come up with a topic for it and i have absolutely no idea what to do (and neither does anybody else in my group afaik) or what even qualifies as a topic and we are left like "yea u will figure something out btw u need to come up with an idea due february 1st because fuck you"
we're fixing to meet up with our assigned prof this week (who i heard is nice but everybody else got comp scientists or actual software engineers and shes a MATH teacher :) ) and if she doesn't have any idea either then i give up. maybe we can actually figure something out and i'll shoehorn this fucking pi into the project even though it's probably a really bad idea because the only thing i've programmed that wasn't a desktop pc was an 8051 and i had no idea wjat i was doing
also for 100$ i can pimp out my laptop so it actually has a decent amount of ram and an ssd which i will use on the daily and not wanna end myself anymore so yea i probably should just do that =)
as far as im aware it's powerful enough to fuck around, browse the web and will handle most programming stuff and other nerd shit
yes, but why would u need a raspi for these things (apart from that its not able to handle big projects afaik), its a fun gadget but not for 100$+, might as well stick w using ur laptop or pc
+as i said i dont have anything planned for it, i do have a diploma project to write though but as far as im aware it needs to solve some 'novel' problem
if u are into high performance computing u might wanna consider building a raspi cluster (idk if ur uni will pay for anything though, but im assuming they will not)
diploma project=thesis? ur professor will surely have some project ideas. im surprised there arent any advertised student projects/thesis proposals/jobs, im doing my thesis next semester (as well?) and it seems rather easy to find some interesting topic.
also for 100$ i can pimp out my laptop so it actually has a decent amount of ram and an ssd which i will use on the daily and not wanna end myself anymore so yea i probably should just do that =)
isn't thesis for phd or masters or whatever? honestly i have no idea what any of the degrees mean here or in europe/us, as far as im concerned there are bachelors, masters and everything above that is nerds. im doing a diploma this (next? im pretty much done w/ this semester already) sem so i can finish my bachelors and then im gonna try and get a masters degree just to flex (though i might actually need it to win some time w/ my citizenship procedures) and i believe it requires some sort of graduation work as well
why are you doing your thesis already anywya? werent you admitted a year later than me? does your bachelors last 3 years?
yes, but why would u need a raspi for these things (apart from that its not able to handle big projects afaik), its a fun gadget but not for 100$+, might as well stick w using ur laptop or pc
yea i agree with this and what you said in the prev post, i just got excited about the possibility of having a computer the size of a phone (lmao your phone is already a computer IDIOT! xDDD) that you can do whatever you want with.
it's not like i can't afford it either, i have a fucking fortune comared to an avg student - i'm just a stingy fuck and i'd rather not spend my money because i might suddenly need a lot of it because i'm a literal nobody here and have nothing here - if something happens, i don't really have anywhere to go
bachelors degrees are 3 years here (for whatever dumb reason), its concluded by a bachelors thesis (i assume its the same as ur diploma or w/e), where, at least in computer science, u usually work on a project for 6 months and then write down what you have done, analyze it, improve the performance etc in 30-50 pages
i sure hope ill end up with an interesting topic, a lot of the proposals ive seen so far include adding gpu acceleration to already existing projects or things such as working on our supercomputers submission system: tl;dr, basically the same tedious shit as working but without earning anything
doing masters seems pretty cool, being able to work only on topics that interest you, ill do the same thing
i actually have no idea what masters here are about, i know that you have to pass an entry exam again and that people say it's easy but other than that i'm completely in the dark
yea ur thesis thing seems more or less like diplomas here. few people actually do something interesting though, most people just try to write some bullshit and get some program or w/e and that's probably what i'm gonna do since i have nothing genuinely interesting going on
if u guys do ti10 meetup, ill show up. for the lulz. im surprised this thread is continuing on. miss the dotabuff days sometimes, even tho it was cancer.
also i played with arch on a vm on my work pc - it's a distro for masochists, i don't know how people do this shit. i spent a week reading wiki & googling and the farthest i got was getting i3 to sort-of make windows opaque so it looks cool and i can see my wallaper. i can't imagine the problems i'd have on real hardware (though tbh virtualbox seems to make it worse because i couldn't get above 800x600 res even though i followed all the steps)
I teach small classes (<20 ppl) and correct their homework, topic is intro to java programming
Yea arch took me a day just to set up the most basic stuff as well, it's pretty crazy BUT at least you can flex on fellow computer scientists once you got it set up ☻
Anyone want to code my thesis for me? Willing to pay 5000 Philippine centavos
couldnt you just say it in usd/euro :/ you are using English for communication and you refuse using their other common measurements, thats annoying and ironic!
edit: and also , its not even Philippine standard currency! its Peso ! did you even tried to understand world consists from ppl more than you and your regional friends? :/
alongside that , are u actually offering 1$ for your project?
i dont know, its between semesters, im home, lazy to do anything meaningful
wasting time on dotabuff saying retarded ppl how retarded they sound like a moron :D
I teach small classes (<20 ppl) and correct their homework, topic is intro to java programming
that sounds pretty cool (aside from the part where you have to talk in front of 20 people from a position of authority)
fulltime work sucks. i get up at 7am, leave at 8:30 and come back at 18:30 and i have a grand total of 4 and a half hours to myself before i go to sleep, and i don't even do anything at my work (not my fault) so i'm not totally dead inside by the time i get home - though if i had some actual interesting work to do i wager i'd be happier than now because right now the best i can hope for is some stupid code monkey bullshit at best and absolutely nothing at worst.
and the worst thing is realising that i actually have it pretty fucking good comparatively - i got paid for my internship as if i worked fulltime, and now i get a full wage even though i worked 2/3 days out of 5 becuase of uni. my classmate negotiated a 3 day work week and afaik his wage wasn't even cut (planning to do the same). they also went through the legal hassle of hiring a foreigner (i did most of the work, but they still had to take a risk) and in general they don't put much pressure on me (i mean they pay me to do almost nothing lmao)
point is, i can't imagine how much worse it is for an average person who actually has to bust ass on an actualy 40h/w job and get worse pay than me and worse working conditions. and they have relationships. and children. fuck that shit, the whiny posts on reddit about how dystopian everything is are absolutely correct
my friend got a job at another company, he was into mobile development but he only knew how to do android, and they dealth with ios, so they had him do shit for free for ~2 months to 'learn' + after that they paid him half the wage because he had uni (though he worked more than 20h/w), and only now they're gonna pay him full wage. he busts ass at the job, but the worst thing is that he not only thinks its fine, but he loves it even though on multiple occasions he had severely underslept (like 3/4h of sleep) for days to get uni assignments done and when i asked him why didnt he just take a day or two off and sleep like a normal human being he said that he doesnt want to miss the deadlines or something to that amount - even though the deadlines are arbitrary (they use scrum or some other agile workflow iirc).
hes not a moron either, and is usually pretty cynical about most things which makes me even more surprised that he is so cucked that he literally hurts himself because he is worried about the arbitrary deadline for a fucking job that won't even pay him decently or cover his training
400$ for feeding excel tables into self-written c# shit that converts the info to sql database @ 5 days a week for 8 hours.
i never had a moment in my life, where i was in between "i don't know shit" and "work's pretty okay", given most of the time i leave at 15, and im working a 34-36 hrs/week total.
it's definitely not the shit i wanted to end up with, but at the same time i don't think i can be a code monkey after 5 years of learning c# at uni im pretty sure i'll start vomitting over the keyboard soon or less.
the question is that you can either at your place and enjoy 400$ wage, or try to find something better, at the cost of more time to learn something new, and in the majority of the cases, it's going to be a painful experience.
@ETdawesome: Better you were trolling otherwise I would have snitched you to your uni. People cheating on their degree reduce the recognition of the degree for other students who worked (sometimes hard) to get it.
and the worst thing is realising that i actually have it pretty fucking good comparatively
yea computer scientists absolutely have it good compared to pretty much anyone else, the salary in combination with the schedule & benefits is probably unmatched by other jobs
point is, i can't imagine how much worse it is for an average person who actually has to bust ass on an actualy 40h/w job and get worse pay than me and worse working conditions.
my dad regularly works 60h weeks (hes an electrician, drives to companies to fix their whatever) and its insane to me that he can keep this shit up while being paid almost nothing.. he regularly talks about how annoyed he is bc of work but at the same time he doesnt change/want to change anything and sticks through
meanwhile ill probably have the option to work part time or ~25-30h a week and earn more than him and yet i see myself crying about it
w/e, this is pretty much the same ive said before when i mentioned that im contemplating to change my career but holy fuck i cant imagine sitting in a chair for 50 years programming (or project managing or whatever other shit u do when u stop being a code monkey) i really CANT
on the other hand i also need to say i dont enjoy being a student a lot, its been a long time since i had a truly "free" weekend (since theres always some shit to do i didnt manage during the week), u always have pressure bc of deadlines for some project/seminar/homework, have constant meetings that u waste time in
i think it might feel pretty good to just be able to clock out in the evening and leave work at work
my dad regularly works 60h weeks (hes an electrician, drives to companies to fix their whatever) and its insane to me that he can keep this shit up while being paid almost nothing.. he regularly talks about how annoyed he is bc of work but at the same time he doesnt change/want to change anything and sticks through
well what can he do lol. learn2code?
i think it might feel pretty good to just be able to clock out in the evening and leave work at work
this isn't always possible in software development though, esp if you are higher on the hierarchy than a junior/middle dev
nah but he might have considered changing the company/work a different job (still as electrician), i dont rly know tbh it just seems too fucked up to me
ive been sitting infront of a computer at work for 4 years, quit my job to do smth else because I couldnt imagine doing that stuff all my life, basically the same thought
I called a forestry corporation thats really close to me to maybe start a second apprenticeship (the time woul dbe reduces from 3 years to 2 years and you get payed more, basically enough to sustain yourself), went there for a week to work and see how things are, the 2nd day the guy told me that Id get the apprentice if I want. I thought Id become a forestry worker and then do a degree at a university of applied sciences to become a "ranger" basically.
What I ended up realizing is that if you want a job where you A. earn decent money and b. dont have do work that has high risks of injury, then you will end up in the office one way or another.
Also office jobs are so comfortable, you actually have energy to do stuff after work. basically just get the highest paid desk job you can and enjoy it, no matter what job its always much better than anything else. right now im earning around 5k € at a job where I only have manageable amounts of stress, perfect working conditions and its a 15 minute drive to work. I get a a yearly salary increase of 1-4% depending on how I perform ont top of inflation adjustment, 5 weeks of paid leave.
tldr just get a well paid job in any office environment, all other jobs suck big time, even if sometimes you feel like sitting at a desk all your life us unbearable
well you sure as hell aren't gonna game on it or anything but as far as im aware it's powerful enough to fuck around, browse the web and will handle most programming stuff and other nerd shit

I might even be in sweden around that time by coincidence
I'm so done fuck uni fuck job I just wanna neet
you think you do but you dont
Okay sorry
I want to have a lot of free time while having plenty of money to spend
I should become a millionaire
do u work spunktikus?
Ye I work as TA in uni, next semester probably gonna work for some company
Think I'll stop working in my masters just to have more leisure time
what do tas do? i thought it was a post-bachelor thing

i really hope this guy is somehow joking or writing wrong amount on his post!
you cant even fucking eat a meal with this money in Philippine (1 PHP = 100 centavos shit)
maybe a beer :))
he most definitely is
and is that somehow funny to you?
a joke that needs you to know how phillippine currency works or you wont get it!
why do you even care dude

Yes, I essentially offered 1 dollar.
5000 centavos = 50 pesos
50 pesos ~ 1 dollar
^and what was the whole point of doing that?
you feel smart and funny because ppl dont know how currency in the shit hole you live works?
Bruh chill this is a shitposting forum xD
