but what do you mean with pascal? isn't that shit just a basic programming language like C+?
Pascal is latest Nvidia arhitecture.
Never played Dota on it, but if it has any problems, try installing earlier versions of Drivers.
I had problems with 9800GT or whole g92/g80 series of GPU's, and installing older drivers helped.
No dude pascal and maxwell are the names of the processor architecture inside those gpus. Just like intel cpus are called skylake and haswell etc. It's very confusing cus the names are totally arbitrary so you don't know which is newer unless you keep up on the stuff whereas it's very easy to tell a gtx 1060 is newer than a gtx 960.
I played dota just fine on a gtx 460 but that surely doesn't help as that's super old. Currently I have a r9 270.
What? you have a gtx 460? I was calling it old cus I had one. Yes that's a very old card, they first came out in July 2010 and were the fermi architecture and are 4 revs behind current pascal. I'd say that's pretty old in computer terms, but it's still more than capable of playing dota.
I actually wasn't going to replace mine at the time but it died. It was 2014 I think? So I got four years out of it, pretty decent for a video card. Really no need to update unless you can't play the games you want. I have a bunch of new games it was struggling with like sleeping dogs at the time so I had to just turn off msaa to nothing. And it wouldn't handle newest games like witcher 3. But I never have time to play those between real life and dota.
Yes it used to crash every half an hour on my 1500$ gaming maxwell laptop. Then my pc manufacturer sent a bios update to their costumers and it fixed it
The risky one that will make your pc brick if it gets interrupted. I have 960m and 5700hq cpu. It started as 1 crash per 4-5 hour for ONLY dota and cs go. everything else was good. Then it got frequent like every half an hour dota froze and gave me blue screen thank god i had ssd. That bios update my manufacturer released just for this problem saved me
But it probably caused because of my cpu coz this is the message they sent me:
"we discovered that your laptop model has blue screen issues in dota, cs go and some other applications caused by intels broadwell cpu's. We released this bios update if you are experiencing this issue. Ignore this message if everything is fine"
Been on Nvidia/Dota2 since the 280 series got a 1080 now. Not one single problem, I would put it down to your drivers and not the card. I install 1 year old drivers and stay on them till I need to upgrade them to the next tried and true release.
yeah gpu drivers aren't as bad as windows updates, but there's no reason to auto update them. Unless you are having issues I wouldn't update drivers from old ones that work.
I got a gtx 950 or 960 ish. I fucking do programming and am still don't know much abt computers.
^ure not supposed to. Both are way different things. I know some programmer who cant build a pc and its completely normal
You can learn to build a pc watching a 15 minute youtube video, it's literally plug and play. Unless shit goes wrong like it won't post. Cus then you have to figure out what part is broken. But I've never had that happen.
Building a pc is two things, what parts you need and then plugging them in together. The cpus and cases even come with instructions on where to mount stuff.
i have GTX1060 and im freezing in other games too for some reason (to the point where i need to do a hard restart)

So apparently pascal and maxwell GPU's are dogshit for dota. I NEVER crashed even once on an AMD based system or on my kepler 15 inch (GTX 880m) notebook. But dota crashes quite a bit on my pascal (GTX 1080) and crashes ALOT on my Maxwell (GTX 980). A friend of mine who has GTX 970 has even worse issues, apparently dota makes his whole PC freeze and reset.
Anyone here with maxwell or pascal experiencing crashes? (I don't mean it crashes a fuckton, but after 3 hours of gaming or so)
