How do you teach or train someone that lacks probably the most impt skill in doto? in General Discussion
Bad Intentions

Map Awareness. Please share your inputs. This maybe someone who is in your team dying left and right, always getting caught by enemy spells, not always being in the right place at the right time kinda stuff.

If it's a new player, it might not even be map awareness. It might be lack of hero knowledge. It probably takes around 100-200 hours of studying to memorize the range of every hero. Even longer if you're just playing and not studying. I've got around 800 games and I still couldn't tell you the range of necrophos's death pulse or the range of a warlock upheaval.

^ I couldn't either, I play on feeling. I just know how far it is approximately. It's not just about numbers.

Warlock feels like 800. (It is 650, just checked)
Necro feels like ~500. (It is 475, just checked)

Make sure they change their mini-map icons and maybe put in one of the console commands to make the mini-map itself larger as it it'll make it easier for them to look over at it occasionally and larger and colourful icons are slightly more eye-catching.

Aside from that, maybe run them through the relative danger levels of the various heros every 10 mins or so. The problem with this I've found is that there are so many exceptions in Dota to any one rule in relation to heros and making absolute non-multiclausal statements just tends to be confusing. "Don't go on Axe, he is very strong early." "Hey dude, Axe is out of position. Lets harass him a bit." The new player will not understand that your creeps make Axe strong and will chase Axe into the creepwave and die (unless it is a prolonged chase, but often it isn't and the margin for 'getting that last auto off' and 'overextending' can be pretty small).

It's better to play safe, have them on a Lich who really only needs to occasionally throw an icy bouncy ball at his opponents during fights (or a hero with a relatively low requirement to play okay). Ranged over meele.

Random side note, I've found that sometimes newer players don't read tps properly. They won't look at the colours and say 'okay, this is the hero returning to lane to defend his tower' or 'oh shit, that's the mid hero or ganking hero, time to back it up'. In a game of flashing light and colours, a tp often is overlooked.

I also totally agree with the above statements about playing by feeling.
