there is an option in Dota 2 called "look for channels" or smthng like that, you have to press a "+"-shape button which is close to the chats you have; on right top corner of the chat to be precise. Find there a channel called PARTY RANKED (it is originally written in caps and it usually has 600-700 ppl on it). It may help you to find a lot of people, and you can try to play with them, and keep as friends those ones you enjoyed to played with most.
Once you have a lot of people to play with, it will be easy to organize a team to join a tournament.
