I highly doubt that you got 120 when chaotic fights appear.

I had 1100t running at 4GHz 1.49V on Crosshair IV Formula and best I've got was 65-70 FPS at chaotic stuff and more or less 90-110 caped otherwise.

Yorkey, why do you feel so butthurtt? I never called you a liar, it was just weird that K10.5 architecture holds on so good in terms for FPS in Dotka 2.

Are you runing Source 2 engine maybe? Because last time I've checked, I didn't manage to get your results, and I'm pretty sure everything was fully working as it should.

On the other hand, on another side of desk, I got Athlon II X4 at 3,5GHz on some MSI mobo, running barely a bit above 35 FPS in team fights..

Yes, apparently, L3 cache does matter, but it's just amazing if they managed to fix a source 1 engine for older CPUs(since AM3 cpus miss plenty of instructions!)

@ Blunt, how you managed to OC it to 4.5ghz? What voltage? What's exact model of your mobo? What cooler you're using?

I know Yorkfield CPU's are good overclockers, but 4.5ghz really seem a bit out of their limit when it comes to some decent-cooling solutions(eg. air)

Yeah, man.. Had i5-2500 on Z68 Gigabyte motheboard back then, was a killer OC CPU. :) 5.5 on 1,55v, with custom wather loop.

It wasn't for 24/7 use but it was prime95/linx stable tho.. :)

My older QX9650 was able to get 4.75.

Uhm, i don't exacly know much details anymore, but i will try to answer as much as i can remember.

I know that on my first QX i didn't even need to take the voltage to much higher ( it ran on around 1.4V), but with my 'new' qx the story was quite different. The current QX is running at 1.55V, multi on 12 and then FSB on 375.

I don't remember what cooling unit i did build in it. I can remember that it was a big arctic air cooler. I can probably look at it when i'm back at home. Currently in a store being bored as fuck.

DotA runs at 60 fps in 1080p. I capped the framerate via Catalyst Control Center as my Monitor can't display more - it's wasted energy to render as many frames as possible.

I wished I didnt break my computer by playing too much pirated Minecraft and pirated Arkham. Now I'm travelling from oasis to oasis with my trusty camel Dingo, playing the slowest, shittiest stone tablets of a computer at a very overpriced hourly rate.

You guys would cry if you knew what I play on. Needless to say I'm still managing around 60-70 FPS on a desktop from Feb 2008 after some upgrades.

My rig is getting old, built it nearly 5 years ago now, but I upgraded the gpu cus the old one died and added ram and it's still fast enough for everything except like witcher 3 and dragon age inqusition on max, and that's more cus I didn't go balls out on the gpu (I just turn off anti aliasing and they are fine). It's really quite amazing how well the older intel cpus have held up, they are still super fast.

One of my fans on the antec illusion started getting super noisy even after cleanings so I unplugged it. Dunno if I should replace. It's a front fan and there's 2, airflow still seems pretty good. It's definitely not going to overheat, it's more for dust, keeping positive pressure to push dust out.

Idk what fps I get in dota, I never turned on a monitor cus it's never laggy. I'd assume I get 60, I think I have vsycn on which is probably terrible.

Pretty sure Mac Pro cases are made from an alluminum allow that acts as a heat sink, so in essence the case itself is heat management.

That's not true, triple A pc game settings vary drastically. Usually you can run everything on highest except for shadows and anti aliasing and older cards are just fine. It's people who go 4x msaa and then bitch about their 3 year old card not being powerful enough that are clueless. Msaa essentially increases your resolution by that number, so 4x msaa is like 4 times the res of whatever you are playing at (probably 1920x1080 or 1080p). Fxaa is a much less demanding algorithm, older cards can usually run that, but even turning off that isn't a big deal. If I were to turn on a game right now, any newer game like tomb raider, dragon age inquisition, whatever, I bet 90% of people wouldn't be able to tell if msaa was on or not. It's like people who say they can tell the difference between 60 and 120 fps. Side by side it might look smoother, but separately it's extremely hard to notice. I can only tell AA differences in screenshots mainly.

Although selling and upgrading every 6 months isn't an awful idea, since a $300 card every 3 years is essentially the same price then. But if you buy lower or mid range cards like me they don't hold their value as much I don't think, like my r9 270 was only ~140 new and now it's like 100, but the equivalent new card is like a r7 370 and it's not not much faster at all, not worth the upgrade. Mid range cards don't improve as fast as top tier.
