There are 5 separate MMR scores. Solo Ranked, Party Ranked, Solo Unranked, Party Unranked, and Team.

Solo Unranked establishes the starting point for Solo Ranked after you have enough levels. Party Unranked establishes the starting point for Party Ranked and Team MMRs. You will also have a separate Team MMR for each team for which you play 3 or more games. Solo scores and Party scores do not interact. Also after you have calibrated your Solo Ranked score it disconnects from your Solo Unranked score.

So for instance my solo unranked MMR was near 4k, but later I lost a ton of games and my ranked MMR dropped down about 1500 points. That is why for a long time my ranked games were in "normal" and my unranked games remained in "very high" where both scores used to be. Recently I moved my solo ranked MMR back up into "high". This can be confusing if you don't sort your games out using the drop down menus on your "Matches" tab on your dotabuff page.
