AA is one of my favorite supports to play. I just have some questions about him directed towards some people who play him a lot at a higher level than what I'm at now (which should be pretty much everyone)

How do you guys approach skill build? I typically max Q, W, with ulti at every available level, and forgo leveling my E entirely in favor of stats. I've seen some high level players do this, and I've seen some high level players not do this. I feel like he benefits from the survivability, but I'm curious to see your take on it.

In pub games, how important is the aghs rush? I know you're way more valuable to the team when you have it, but I often find myself low on mana, and typically go boots, (sometimes urn), treads, Euls, Aghs. I like the euls for the mana regen, move speed, and you can use it to set up your Q, which works wonders on a void in chrono for example.

I've seen pro players going midas into aghs, but im not sure that I would be able to get away with it in my mmr because I am usually the only support.

    Any thoughts/ comments appreciated

STAY AFK ON BASE AND GET KILLS

        Last picking is 4 pussies

I'll be honest I used to do like you and skip e but lately I have started using it more.

Small helpful tip is it works amazing to harass BB.

          yung griphook

@qqxz not really sure what you're trying to say here

that's interesting, I'll have to try that against bb

            Kehittymisavustaja

Max E and use it to deny every fucking creep. Q is useless without reliable stun in lane so you can skip it. Never go midas all you need is aghs, wards and boots.

              TripleSteal-

E is nearly default first spell, but you rarely need to max it. by lvl3 in most cases u should have 1-1-1, and then ur skillbuild may vary. i can easuly imagine situation that favors any of the variants. btw consider taking +, too; sometimes it works.

what about itembuild, there are basically 3 variants: eul, force or aghs. Eul is for Q+W+R combo, forcestaff is needed if opponents' pick suggests it (clock for example), aghs is just very good but kinda expensive.
also, aa is the kind of support that enjoys having a midas
in most cases you dont need to upgrade your boots early on, but if you decide to do it consider tranq (+optional soul ring that u wont need in most of your games) or pt (for hp). however, these upgrades are not worth money u spend on 'em tbh.
urn is good but depends on the style u play. if you are just farming under tower and throwing ulties, you probably wont need this item.
your itembuild in lategame can include veil, hex, rod of atos, bs (although this one is highly questionable imo).

some general stuff: rather often in ur pub games youll play aa as position 5 (and thats reasonable). in this case, u will be poor as Simbabwe in 2007 and the optimal item progression will be Boots -> Urn -> Force/Eul, meanwhile buying tons of wards that u cant place cz nobody gonna help you, tp's for constantly feeding carries, smokes for greedy afk jungle ursas that want they aegis to feed two times in a row, sentries to fight enemy 15-0 by min 7 riki etc.

                Androgynous

qqxz is basically saying 'do what I do', since his winrate on AA is really high and he's a 5.5k rated player if I remember correctly

atos is good on AA too, it's got a long cast range and it's cooldown pairs well with cold feet's, plus you're not avoiding the damage unlike with euls.

stats are definitely not worth getting over chilling touch. if you were to be getting stats, it would be in place of cold feet, because every other one of AA's abilities has good range which lets you stay back and avoid damage, while cold feet is unreliable and is more likely to get you killed, although if you have atos/euls, you have some defensive capability + int/mana that you don't need points in attribute bonus anyway. plus if you have got euls or atos, you shouldn't be levelling stats over cold feet because both items make the stun easier to land.

also if chilling touch is maxed out, it can be used like wisp spirits, where if you time your usage correctly you can get two casts of chilling touch one immediately after the first ends just like how you can get double spirits for stupid amounts of early game damage, as the cooldown is shorter than the duration when maxed out, and at rank 3, the cooldown is only 4s longer than the duration.

if you can get 2 chilling touches in quick succession, this is 700/960 magic damage per unit affected by the chilling touch, and is likely going to be further amplified by ice vortex for even more damage.

also veil is legit, since veil has a good cast range and area of effect, just like ice vortex. aghs rush (and/or midas into aghs) is useful if you can actually land his ultimate reliably. otherwise atos or veil are going to be more impactful because they're much easier to use.

if you're low on mana go for tranquil + soul ring combo, you'll get more mana regen from it than arcanes, and more speed.

You could get more in feet early if you have a partner to combo it with (strength morph, lion, shaman, support naga, axe, cm, Always Lucky CK, Disruptor etc.) otherwise it kinda sucks since you need them in the area for 4 seconds to stun..

some good info here guys, thanks. I'll have to try some of these out.

I never even thought of not getting Q at 1. In my mmr most people don't think to run away when I cast q, so I never have too much trouble landing it. Plus, I always felt like it was a risk/reward type deal. If someone tries to dive tower or something it's an easy kill.

Gonna try these things out for sure.

Also, I hear this '5-position" "3-position" etc. thrown out a lot and im not sure what they mean. I get that theyre roles but im not sure what role is what #. Anyone care to explain?

                        Pom Pom 🍕

"positions" are what farm priority you have on your team.
The normal positions for each lane are:
                          position 1 = safelane carry
                          position 2 = mid
                          position 3 = offlaner/suicide laner
                          position 4 = semi-support/jungler
                          position 5 = hard-support/ward bitch

Sometimes mid and safelane have switched positions though, depends on the heroes.

                            thanks!

i tried leveling my E early last game and it made a huge diff! allowed me to a creep cutting axe a few times in lane. good info

                            Dire Wolf

It's just who gets farm. The lane positions aren't locked in stone, like Axe might jungle and he's like a 3 position usually. Really all that matters is are you buying the wards as a support or is another support doing it. Cus some supports thrive with more gold than others.

But what everyone else said, chilling touch is amazing for pushing enemies out of lane and you can outright kill them if they aren't away of the damage it does.

                              "TheKid belowMeIs an ass"...

chilling touch is a better first skill. huge magic dmg for level 1. U only got cold feet if you have a reliable stun that can keep them in place.

                                PROTECTHIMFROMWHATHEWANTS

                                  Ynit is a good aa

                                  aaaaaxaaxaxaxxaxaaxxa

                                  Pilot

I mostly max w. Slow is incredibly good early game and it amplifies magic damage, so that's a good plus. Q is very unreliable especially if you have nothing to set it up for you. I usually only get 1 level early then I choose to max it after W. It's pretty useful for zoning. You don't really want to get too many points in E because it falls off hard late game. Be careful not to keep spamming it on your carry (especially if he has enough damage items already), you are basically handicapping your carry.

Usual build: One level of E early (for zoning/early rune fights), Max W first, Get 1 Q, Choose to either get stats or Q. I usually only get 2 levels of E MAX by level 7. After that I choose stats over that.

I don't always go in for fights. Sometimes I would stay and farm a free lane then throw my ult whenever a fight is happening. My build is usually tranquils into aghs. (You can also go tranqs/midas/aghs). You should be able to get your aghs at 25-30 mins while still getting wards/other support items even in a bad game.
