Thanks guys!
I was thinking about trying to make an animated background much like in the game menu; maybe I'll be able to see it through, but I make no promises on that department.
Thanks guys!
"Freaking awesome! Are you gonna make different themes based on different heroes?"
I'm planning on releasing this general Dota 2 one for now, not sure if I'll make hero-specific ones later, as there are just way too many heroes.
"Now make a windows XP HUD for dota"
Though I don't usually skin XP visual styles, but Rainmeter should work pretty well with XP.
I've already made a Dota 2 Game HUD Rainmeter skin suite, you can download that here:

Guys, could you tell me if you would prefer the caption buttons (close, minimize, restore) stay as the ones I've posted above, or rather more like this:
Please observe closely.
Yeah the later caption buttons look nicer as they are more defined. Can't wait for this to be finished!
Showing some of the most recent progress, selection backgrounds, headers and other hard-to-spot differences.
I was wondering if a bit darkened window borders would look better or worse...
Also, I've made a concept for the popup menus; not sure if I made it orange (like the hero suggestions / builds page ingame) would it look good, or should I keep it red.

It will only require a few kilobytes uxtheme patcher (uxstyle / Universal Theme Patcher), and moving the files I'll include to your \windows\resources\themes folder.
Afterwards you will be able to apply it either by double clicking on the .theme file, or from the personalize menu of Windows.
Though I usually make some kind of installer as well for the final versions.
So made a few adjustments to match the suggestions I've gotten; this style might also be recognizable from in-game elements.

Still not sure how the final version will play out, but want you guys to compare this style and the last, and say which one you would like more.
Thank you in advance!
Update showing some of the recent progress, either final or not.

For the Steam theme:

Download is on the right side of the page.
I'd say it will take about a week for the final release on Windows 7, not sure how fast I'll be able to get it ported to 8 / 8.1 though.
Today I've made a lot of progress, so I'd say chances are it will be released early next week, or even by the weekend.
As linked above, I've made a Rainmeter Dota 2 Game HUD skin suite too, that works on XP as well.

The last preview before release, that - if all goes well - will happen in a few days.
Showing the alternate (wider) taskbar, task manager, clock and calendar, and thumbnails.
Sadly I can't seem to be able to recolor the clock hands.
You mean a Rubick specific Windows theme?
Hmm not sure, it'd be a bit hard to find a color scheme and elements / patterns for him
If you mean a wallpaper, I myself don't design wallpapers, just the theme (window borders, taskbar, buttons, etc, etc)
I see, well, I might do one one of these days, though it will probably be a more simple / elegant theme next time.
One of my best friends is a huge Rubick fan.
It has been released!

You might like the Steam theme that's already ported to Windows 8 / 8.1 though, or one of my Dota2 Rainmeter skin suites:

The visual style will first arrive to Windows 7, but probably getting a Windows 8 / 8.1 port soon after the release.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When finished, the theme will include:
- The visual style
- Installation guide
- Navigation icons - explorerframe.dll
- Clock - timedate.cpl
- Shell style - shell32.dll
- Start orbs - Windows and Steam orbs, with or without frames
- Matching Rainmeter skin
- Likely some wallpapers
