dotabuff.com is a multi-language website. it has five languages : English Deutsch Português Русский 中文

    http://www.dotabuff.com/
    http://de.dotabuff.com/
    http://pt.dotabuff.com/
    http://ru.dotabuff.com/
    http://zh.dotabuff.com/

all these pages linked to the same forum here.

So I assume all these five languages are equally welcomed in the forum. So If someone open a thread with only russian , spanish or chinese, we should leave them there and let those who speak those languages reply/ discuss.

saw those russian languages threads got locked. their contents seems totally legit and hatred-free (according to google translate).

I think it is admin's work to maintain the diversity and mutl-culturality of this forum, not by locking those language threads.

If admins let 5 languages happen in the same forum without splitting it into 5 different subforums for each language, this forum would be a mess. If they are gonna allow multi language threads, they should make subforums for those languages.

^ agree. one problem is that all these pages linked to the same forum .

I remember a while ago, in the Dotabuff community admin recruitment pages.
one of the preferred skills for the admin include foreign languages such as russian and chinese.

            just FYI.

Fancy socks bans people for speaking russian on Dotabuff

^noticed he locked down two of those today but answered their questions. Maybe so the usual suspects on here don't say "cyka" and harass them when they are trying to ask legit questions. IDK.

                whoji

^ maybe and I believe so that he was doing them a favor by locking those two thread.
but locking russian language thread can also send a message to the community : foreign languages are not welcome here.

The thing is I've answered the questions the people had and they belong to the support ticketing system in the first place. And, as Cpt. Caveman pointed out - there were already some indications of trolling in the posts)

The forum is a place for discussions and (more frequently) rants about how MMR is bad and how teammates are underperforming)

I am in now way against the Russian speaking community. Especially considering Russian is my first language. I did not try to discriminate the Player on the basis of his language preference or anything)

Currently, having a sub-section for the Russian speaking community is being considered, as well as other forum improvements. We are constantly developing to create a better platform for discussions.

I am sorry if I have offended somebody - that was not my intention.

                    King of Low Prio

I shall accept your apology for my russian brethren.

                      Gustaphos

@ KawaiiSocks I don't think your intentions were offending anyone:

                        1. People don't realize you speak russian/your first language on here possibly IDK. (sampson was probably just being funny above I'm sure)

                        2. You were just protecting someone from being flamed that didn't really need to be due to the usual suspects. Sad you have to play forum babysitter instead of doing more productive things like improving the site.

                        3. Yes the forum should be for discussions and less frequently rants about the MMR is bad bad teammates etc. It would be nice if some of those would be locked down too but that's just my opinion.

I really think the community here should be a little more respectful to others since everyone has google/translate to assist to communicate to people. No need to be rude it gives USA or whatever country everyone is from here a bad impression of the country as a whole IMO.

Again this is just me talking, but I doubt that anyone would have the same backbone to say half the stuff is said in a forum post to flame someone else if you had to say it to their face.

Watch last nights episode of parks and rec. and see what Ron Swanson does after his co-worker flames another co-worker on yelp. He ends up showing her that instead of doing it anonymously, and actually physically mailing hate mail and putting your name/address/phone # is the man way to do it.

I highly suggest no one does that though in case anyone is kidnapped/adult napped... but that episode was funny and proved a point.

Either way I get why you did it Kawaii, and no offense taken. You did the right thing obviously. I would probably suggest you either ban the usual suspect from posting on here for a period of time or warn them though as I am sick of it at this point.

I was offended, which is why I forced fancy socks to apologize to me.
