What server do you play ?

I could definitely use some improvement on my carry play. Unfortunately I am not going to be free tonight. Will you be doing this on weekends?

You might want to post matches / show actual data instead of a smurf account if you want to be taken seriously.(not trying to be mean, its a good idea but you might want to add that part)

I'm on Australian server.

Fair enough Sampson, however I've set my match history to public, so anyone can login and view not only my dota buff but also watch my matches.
I don't really want to create how-to videos or guides, more of a 1 on 1 assistance type of thing.

OK, I do appreciate what you are trying to do but your advertisement is extremely misleading.

-I viewed your a couple matches and you play in the normal bracket
-From what I saw you dont yet grasp how to farm effectively (you prioritize denies over last hitting which hurts your numbers alot)
-You tend to waste alot of time doing nothing because you dont fully get what should be done in certain situations
-Your post makes it seem like you are a tournament caliber player, whether that was your intention or not that is what it looks like.

You should be the one receiving coaching not the other way around.....

Sampson if he is better than half of dota 2 players (probably true) then that is at least 3 million people he could instruct. Frankly a tournament caliber player has a very hard time relating to the problems of nub/bad players and tends to give inappropriate advice.

that is like saying if someone gets a B on his essay he should be a professor. My main issue with it is how misleading(borderline lying) his post is.

Not sure how to happen like this as Luna - the speed farmer.

He might be above average, but that's not enough for teaching people.

Appreciate the negative feedback... Just trying to help a few dota players build their game up. If you are here to knock people down because it makes you feel big, then that's your thing. Not mine.

winrate != skill ?

having say a 60% winrate in the normal bracket does not mean you are better than a person with 50% win rate on page 1 games. Stats give you a general idea on if someone is a good player or not but the stats need context

Dota 2 has such a huge range of skill levels. Any player with a few hundred games has plenty of experience to share with real nubs who have just started. It does not make any sense to try to forbid them from trying.

So the competition at a local AUS tournament does not compare to semi-pro open tournament like EIZO which does not compare to a major regional tournament like The Defense, which again does not compare to TI. So what...

I went to a local tournament in Chicago...there were 16 teams, the winner was 4.3K MMR. So what if there are 1,000 teams better than that around the world? Does that make it not a tournament? Does that mean the people there didn't have dota experience? Did they not win the tiny $250 prize for first? Why begrudge them their small personal triumph?

For the community to grow it must reject the pubescent reflex to shout and point to myself every time I notice that someone is in any way smaller or weaker than me. Are you an average dota player? Great, there are 3 million better than you that you can learn from and 3 million worse than you that you could help. Do not be afraid if someone complains that you are bad compared to them. So what? if you are not on [A]lliance someone is better than you. If anyone feels they get so little real praise that they have to point out that they are better don't let it discourage you. You do not have to be super-pro to have value and an opinion. If you are wrong plenty of people will tell you. Don't worry about it. If you are right, plenty of people will claim you are wrong anyway. Don't be intimidated.

Many on the Internet love to cite the Duning-Kruger effect for the incompetent overestimating their skills...but there is another part to the research which reveals that those who are excellent also tend to underestimate just how unique and amazing they are.
Outstanding people tend to struggle to comprehend that many people do not find what they do easy.

Eight, you and many other excellent dota players fail to discriminate, to discern the important and large differences between an above average player an average player and a true nub or feeder. You many not realize that while all of these players would be easy for you to defeat without really even paying attention...they can have huge skill and knowledge gaps between them.

Please watch this video to see what I mean, and to enjoy a good time. Someone on a 3k MMR team is an expert compared to these players and could have a lot to teach them. But someone like yourself is so far above them its hard to even relate or understand what they are trying to do or why. You would not be the best choice to advise them on how to improve...maybe even a 3k player would be rated too high, maybe a 2.5k player would be more appropriate to help them improve.

Where's the link to the worst pub mistakes thread? If op can just explain balanced hero selection, warding, last hits and denies it will be a huge service to the average dota2 player.

There are far more weaker players who read this forum and don't post. To a large extend they are afraid to post because of the abuse that is likely to accrue to them when they do. This is also why so many dota players remain anonymous. If the community could develop some small measure of respect for weaker players it would be far easier to pass on information, share experiences, and collaborate.

People take a lot longer to learn how to play dota 2 because they meet such hostility if and when they try to get help.

He was not asking for help he was telling people he was a advanced tournament caliber player. I was respectful to him when I asked about his credentials and he flipped out when he found out that he was in fact wrong. Had I not brought that up he would have coached players who believed what he was teaching them was right. It is not my fault some people can not accept the truth and it will not stop me from telling them so because I believe blind arrogance is one of the main causes to the aggressive community. The people who are too scared to be called wrong are the same people who are too arrogant to accept that they are wrong and therefore unable to improve and not worth mine or anyone else's time that is willing to help them. At one point I thought battlefury was the best item for BH until people told me I was wrong and I actually took that information and reflected on it and found out I was indeed mistaken.

Even if he would teach some wrong things, he can still have much to offer to a new player. I've recently started teaching one of my irl friends to play dota 2, and its hard to realize exactly how much you take for granted. Simple things like being in range of enemy tower, agroing creep, backing up when your creep wave dies, etc. If a new player can learn these extremely basic things from a more experienced player, they are going to have a much quicker and stronger start than they would have had otherwise.

If someone is selling smokes with rat poison in it should I leave it alone because I dont smoke? I have no issue with him teaching people I have a issue with someone misleading other players

First of all its just a game not some serious offence he did. Also tell me when was the last time u went against someone with rat poison in smokes, a forum gives u the opportunity to do so easily even if u arent 100% sure if u are right or wrong.

Also he said is for free, "trying" him out first then judge will cost u only some wasted free time, nothing more nothing less. In the end he might tell u something that u didnt know or he might be good! Bashing him from the start isnt right imho.

If I made a post and said I play for Alliance and will give tips to advanced players on how to enter the competitive scene you guys would be the first to comment and say "stop your BS" because it effects YOU. New players =/ casual players some new people want to be competitive in the game as well but due to lack of information they might be mislead into thinking that what the OP is teaching them is 'correct'

Misleading might be possible i wont argue with that. Still tho its up to every new player if he ll give it a try or not. U or me saying that u play for Alliance is something that goes over the edge, what he said sounds pretty ok to me, even if i still doubt the caliber of tournaments he participated

I used the rat poison as a example if you can not use your brain to make comparisons I will make a easier one for you. If you are riding the bus and a person asks the bus driver for directions and the bus driver gives him directions to the opposite side of the city(intentional or not) and I hear the conversation I will correct the misinformation because letting the poor guy waste his day would be a dick move.

I don't disagree that OP is not particularly good at dota. But he is still a lot better than nubs and could help them learn some things. Anyone who is good enough to actually want pro level help can glance at his stats and realize they are already better than OP, they don't need to be protected from his exaggerated initial claims.

I think that more positive community build up can be accomplished by explaining specific errors if and when someone advances them rather than putting down someone who wants to help nubs improve.

I have no doubt that Dotabuff will continue to see more and more posts by people who are avg bad saying something like "I am a pro player tried of playing with nubs and looking for other pros to stack with"....there is no need to tell such people that they play with nubs because they are barely any better than the nubs. They are already frustrated and sad/mad because bad. No need to hit them while they are down.

I have no doubt that Dotabuff will continue to see more and more posts by people who are moderately above average claiming that they are starting a "competitive" team to play to "enter tournaments"... these people already know they are not the next Navi, there is no need to publicly denounce them for wanting to go play some local LAN with friends. Let them have fun.

People who are actually at a level where they could almost play on a pro team don't need to announce things in a forum to find other excellent players to play with them. Excellent players will notice them from randomly playing a pub game and invite them/accept invites from them after seeing in the game that they really have the skills. People who are ordinary and want to say or believe they are special...let them say what they want. Why try to make them feel bad? They are no threat.

I hope that I have followed my own advice. Maybe I have not. I apologize. I try to only go after smurfs who attack others. If they just want to pretend they are special I don't bother them.

@Relentless Nowadays a fairly new player who will just a watch a stream from a navy vs alliance game he ll understand lots, some of the commentators explain lots of stuff and they make it fairly easy to pick up, for sure they wont play like them but they ll practise some things. I agree in everything uve said pretty much.

Don't know why people are hating so hard. Many noobs out there who would appreciate help so I dont know why Sampson is going all "you lying scum" on his ass. Ok maybe you are a better player than him but that doesnt change the fact that there are many people whom he could help.
Like the comments about the win rates, 58% must be so pro.... When estimating a randoms skill take 3 things into account
1)Win rate
2)How many games he has played (the more games he has played the more he tends to lean to 50% mark
3) If he plays alone or with ppl, the communication is vital in every team game

So for example you should judge higher a player with 1500 games played with 53% win rate in solo que than a 64% win rate with 250 games played with friends.

They guy only wanted to help new players for free.
