the outcome of matches doesn’t correlate at all to the likelihood of quitting. Losing a bunch of Dota 2 games doesn’t seem to cause people to quit.

Guess that blows the people who are saying because they're muted now they keep getting reported and muted even longer out of the water or that one team can cause you to be muted. As many have already said and now confirmed by valve. It's your shitty attitude and way you're treating your team mate from game to game , and building a trail of reports that's causing you to get hit.
the first thing you're mentioning isn't confirmed at all
valve merely stated how it's working now and they admitted that they have changed the algorithm for the mutes several times, so people who said that they got muted from several reports in 1 game might have been right (at the time)
anyway i think muting people is fucking awful as a short term strategy, might get better with time when people stop being unreasonable dumbasses, but no system in the world's gonna do that for you
Inspector waffles correctly understood the meaning. It is, and has always been, a pattern of behavior that hit you, not one game.

As I have tried to explain to those who whine about it on dotabuff. Being a dick really is not common or acceptable. It is rare behavior. Most people try to get along with others. And everyone gets upset about it when you insult people, even if they played badly. Many people will think of some angry and hurtful thing to say when things go wrong. But very few will actually do it because they know it only causes more problems and does not help anyone improve. Most people remember themselves making the same mistake at some point and temper their speech.

There does still seem to be a problem with so many unbans occurring all at once at the start of the week. I suddenly find my games have people deserving of reports again that first day of the week, but these people are quickly knocked down again by day two. I'll be happy to take 6 days of no game ruininers and suffer through one day. Over time more of them will learn to behave like normal people. I think a lot of them really did not know they were making so many people angry at them.

and you'd have them in your games anyway the only difference being that they got muted
(unless they'd stop playing when they are muted, which obviously some people will but many won't)
i'd rather argue with a retard than having that retard muted and on my team
and i'd also rather be able to identify him as a retard because of what he's saying than by having to guess that by his plays
+ someone who's muted it easily discouraged to play as he can't communicate with his team
and btw i've seen many cases where people got muted from 1 game where 4 teammates jokingly reported them and got muted, saying that there has to be a pattern isn't saying anything unless you know how that pattern works

No you haven't seen any cases of people getting muted from one game. You don't know who reported them over the last week or month.
I have played at least 4 games where I was stuck on a team of trolls who made it their goal from before creep spawn to try to get me to die and told me that they were all reporting me for feeding....the sort that pick kotl, vs, and tiny so they can reposition you into deaths.
I have got into arguments with intentional game ruiners plenty of times...yet I have never been muted or sent to LPQ because one game will not do it. I am sure I never will. I don't have to worry about it because the only way you can get hit is by consistently making your team angry game after game.
how do you know that? what you're saying is just as much speculation as mine while there were many reported cases of people getting muted from 1 game, including many unwarranted obviously

No, you are mistaken. I have personally been reported by the entire team at least 4 times and did not have any problems. This is a called evidence.
The fact is they are not changing anything due to "many complaints" They have not even received "many complaints". Almost everyone likes the system, is very happy with it in fact.
But people who are normally inconsiderate to everyone around them and for whatever failure of upbringing did not learn that this is unacceptable...such people perpetually complain about their punishment. I am confident however that almost everyone who gets hit with LPQ and mutes will eventually learn how to behave like a normal decent person and stop getting bans.
i got reported from 1 game
i was muted the whole week and even though i got unmuted i did nothing the first 2 days
third way i flamed the fuck out of my team after they said they would report me for winning (almost) the game and wasnt helping them feed more. ofc i got angry and flamed the fuck out of them. next game i was muted gj stupid fucktard system
It apparently takes 2 games to get muted, I just got hit with it. I am quiet for the most part and use ping or chat wheel for communication. Had 2 games in a row, first game 4 stack that did nothing.. they just paced around in front of mid T3.. wouldn't push, wouldnt' defend , when the enemy team did show up they instantly ran, so clearly it was my fault we were losing. After 25 mins of continous abuse I finally snapped back. i should of just muted them.. but I know they reported me. Very next game, instantly had a omni knight blaming and abusing everyone else. after the first game I was just done so after about 10 mins of his shitty attitude me and a PA just poked fun at his tryhard attitude for the last half of the game.. so pretty sure he reported me and I may or may not have deserved that one.. 3rd game of the night try to call missing, muted for 24 message.
Now granted, I should of just muted them and carried on doing my thing.. juding by their behavior I suspect I would of been reported anyway.. at least the 4 stack. Now, I really don't think I have a history or a pattern of abusing my team. As I said, I really don't talk other than GL,HF.. GG,WP and calling out missing.. most of the time it's chat wheel and 1 or 2 pings. I guess 2 games in a row is enough of a pattern.

if you want good games go solo MM
at least that way you dont have to play with/against stacks. And your role impacts more
I would but I've had nothing but dismal teams with Solo.. I think the last time my team consisted of me with my paltry 80 something wins, a 435 wins dude. one dude with like 76 and the last two had less then 15.. then the other team was 240, 120, 80,76 and like another 111 dude.. and of course it was just a stomp, Now granted wins = skill because those two low win accounts could of been smurf account of high skilled players.. but in this case it wasn't.. and that just seems how the solo MM is the handful of times i've tried it. I don't mind playing with\against stacks, I usually try to play with friends anyway and honestly tonight has been the first time I've ever encountered a full troll stack. yeah, you get the odd kid throwing a temper tantrum but for the most part most of my games have been pleasant and fun.
anyway, between bed and work and by the time I get home I'll have only 3 or so hours of the mute left and that will easily be eaten up by catching up watching the few of the games I miss or don't catch at work or wanna see again.
I was banned 3 times in a row for flaming (lets say i worth it). But in the last 3 days i haven't flamed anyone i was barely talking in games, and bam!!! 198 hours muted for no reason! Well done Valve...
