Dotabuff raiting vs Dota2 Matchmaking in General Discussion
Q- Beidl

    Hey guys,

I do have a question about the current match making system in dota 2 and the Dotabuff rating.

Dotabuff says that i am Platin with 1506 points and have a better DBR then 83% of all listed Players here. What does that mean? Is there a text or something like that were i can see how this rating is calculated?

I mean dotabuff says that i am better then 83% of the players but in the dota2 matchmaking i am playing 90% of all games in the "normal" matchmaking pool, which is the lowest. (normal, high, super high)

I'm not a pro gamer but i think i know what i am doing in dota and play really well. I dont get it why i play in the normal pool. And yeah i'm a little bit frustrated to play often with guys who dont know the mechanics of dota.(warding, stacking, pulling, ganking etc.)

So yeah, just asking if someone know how this stuff is calculated.
btw sry for my english, it's a little bit "broken" xD

The normal bracket is very large. I dont know exactly, but estimating from dotabuff stats and some other info I compiled something like 75% of players are rated "Normal". "High" is roughly those rated by DBR at 75-90th percentile and Very High is roughly 90th percentile and up.

However in any individual game even a total nub can end up in a Very High game if he plays with Very High rated friends when he begins the account and they win the first few games. Also anyone, even the very Highest rated players will sometimes be placed in Normal games.

If you continue to win fairly consistently (ie over 50%) when you play in the "High" bracket you will get more high level games. But a more reliable way to get better games is to find some friends who are also MMR high enough to be placed in High games. If you play with at least 3 people who have High MMR pretty much every game will place you in High.

dunno, every new account i make, it seems like im in very high after 3-6 games. So idk how they establish bracket.

ye same here, so i think it has sth to do with your ingame stats lasthits etc. so with your performence ingame? my DBR is 99%/1960 points and im very high

It is even worse then that Relentness. Read this : http://dotametrics.wordpress.com/2012/08/21/the-size-of-dotas-skill-brackets/

80% of games are in the normal bracket. 16.5% are in high and only 3.5% are in in very high.

My DBR is only listed as 1420, but I play in high bracket every match when I solo que. The reason I think my DBR was low is because I play with a few noobs almost every match when I group up. They feed really bad and ruin the match, but it's fun to play with my real life friends.

Dota judges people that haven't played many games differently. It will take into account stats like KDA and last hits and change people's MMR more drastically. This is to prevent people from smurfing which is what you're basically doing. So if you create a new account and do very well on it, you will be moved up very quickly to where you should belong.
