What would you buy? in General Discussion
Rocket

5mins in, team is 7-0 up, you are a 2-0-3 Spec with 2.2k in the bank but just your starting items (stout shield, qb and a couple of ironwood branches)

What would you buy? I rushed a naked relic as I figured I could get it before they had regrouped and could gank me. I always feel Spec's early game is simply answering whether or not there is space to save up for a relic at that moment but maybe it was a bit too greedy/retarded? Would you just buy normal stuff first like upgraded boots/Aquila?

naked radiance on specter is always bad

      flourishing new leaf

Depends on your role mid game. Doesn't help to go heavy dmg if you're squishy and they have the means to blast you. You lose the game on your own.

I totally agree that naked radiance is bad but finding the space for saving up for a relic can also be tricky. I wasn't buying it because I thought naked radiance was good rather I can sneak the relic in whilst they are still reeling from the first 5mins. what would you have bought?

            treads aquila urn radiance

            /edit URN* not drums

go for relic but have boots or yasha or something queued for quickbuy so if you get ganked you can spend all your gold before dying.

Even if you win your lane super hard, rushing rad, especially before boots, is just bad, mostly due to the fact that you just die if you don't have anything else, you have no kill potential against anyone and can't help fights or pickoffs with your ult, and you have too many mana problems. With treads aquilla urn, you basically have all the mana you need, and you can actually be a mild help in the game with haunt or by killing the safelane tower.

Rushing Radiance before any items is essentially gambling on your enemies being retards (which they were, in that match). Delaying it is worth the benefit of an intermediary pickup unless your team is snowballing very hard. Not every position 1 hero is Anti-Mage.

Skipping boots is especially retarded because the MS and stats make farming a lot easier.

Treads aquila plus 1 or 2 out of drums yasha urn diffusal vanguard blademail, based on whether u need a better early to midgame or whether u r dominating enough to get radiance or manta as ur transition items into the lategame after 1 early game item or 2. Vessel isn't that bad too imo, but u need at least one type of dmg oriented early game item (like yasha or diffusal or drums or even full rad) before u can buy this

Fucking lol. Classic 2k player. What is a relic and nothing else gonna do? You need treads Aquila wand at the very least

The way I saw it is that at some point in the early game I’m going to have to be sitting on 3.5k net worth that is doing nothing. Normally I get some small items but, in this case, I think I should get the relic before sf gets an item or void has a chrono. So, at 10mins I either have Aquila+urn+2000 gold or relic. I think the latter is more useful because, although squishier, I’m not playing with a big chunk of gold in the bank that a) is doing nothing b) can be lost.

                              sia

Ok think of it like this:
the more close to the start of the game, the more effective cheaper items are.
Let me explain by some examples.

If u get a branch and ur hp goes from 500 to 520, it's way more effective than having 2000 hp and making it 2020 right? Now every early game item is designed like this. Aquila gives u 19 (?) Damage, 10 attack speed, almost 2 armor (again the less armor u have the more armor+'s effect is), ~60+ hp and ~36 mana. It only costs ~1k gold. A pt gives the ms bonus, +10 damage, and +35 attack speed.

Combine those, and u see how much value they bring. Add a drum or urn to that too, and now compare it with a naked sacred relic.

                                Wirh drum it will be:
                                +13 strength
                                +23 agility
                                +6(?) int
                                +70(?) ms (+drum active)
                                +15 extra as (+drum 35 active as)
                                +2 extra armor
Ability to manipulate creep equilibrium with aquila
Tread switching and extra mana efficiency or tankiness.

                                VS

+ what 60 damage? i dont recall the number.
Now remember flat damage also is way less important than dps. With no items u know how low spectre's dps is

                                Judge

                                Rocket

Yeah I agree with what you are saying but I'm not really comparing the efficiency of a relic to smaller items - obviously gg branch is best value item in the game and relic does nothing for you compared to Aquila/drums.

However, walking around with 2k-3k gold early game has a negative value in the sense that there is a risk you will die and lose a chunk.

I just don't see why, with my lane secured, no risk of being ganked for a few minutes and no extra farm/kills from buying an Aquila/urn that I'm better off setting myself up for having 2k gold when sf picks up a dd/invis rune. The most dangerous part of the game for Spec is that point right? When she is getting close to the relic and that is worse once people start getting 6.

If you had 3.7k gold would you still get the small items before relic?

                                  I'm 2k though so almost 100% i'm wrong NoKappa

                                  sia

The question is, how do u have 3.7k gold sitting on ur bank?

As u accepted the value of early game items, now let's go a step furthur.
Im actually gonna use a great logic u used from ur own statement here

However, walking around with 2k-3k gold early game has a negative value in the sense that there is a risk you will die and lose a chunk.

                                    Im gonna add this :
Since earlt game items matter more, having them asap also is more important.
Example: if u instantly buy boots when the gold comes, u will have the ms bonus until the full tread. I u save up 1500 then buy tread, u effectively were having 1500 less networth being applied to ur strength until u bought the whole thing.

So the ideology here is, if u dont spend gold and keep it, u are effectively missing that much strength on ur hero. It's like until u get that relic, u the 3.7k gold on bank spectre are as strong as a spectre with the same levels and items but without that 3.7k gold. U'r missing 3.7k gold from ur strength.

If u used that 3.7k gold as soon as it got available for an item however, ur hero would become stronger and stronger, and u would snowball out of ur strength.

If u won ur lane and killed the offlaner a bunch by saving for relic, if u had pt aquila drums then, u coulda been crushing ur lane when the dude barely had his full boots and regen. And then u would gank with ur ult and snowball other lanes. And become a 5 0 spectre who farmed lane and jungle, got every lh and deny, rather than a 2 0 spectre who won her lane.

Do u see my logic? I tried explaining my thought process
